making beat box recognition software
A friend and myself are hoping to make a max file in which you can record in your human beatbox kick, snare and hats and it will play out actual kick snare and hats samples in the same pattern in which you beatboxed them in.
we have fairly basic knowledge of Max/MSP and was just wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction.
we are thinking we would need like a frequency analysiser to recognise the difference in the three sounds.
Thanks.
Sounds like bonk~, or better still bonk3~ if you can find it, might be your friend.
Search at www.maxobjects.com (though be aware that the bonk3~ link seems to be dead atm)
cheers

not to put you off trying to building it yourself but
is pretty good I think, if I understand you correctly. It has 3 frequency bands used to drive a sample trigger. kick-Snr-Hat.
I read somewhere that frequency changes in a sound can sometimes give a better indication of percussive peaks than simple amp thresholds. Actually now that I think of it was the PDF file that comes with Bonk~.
Bonk~ uses frequency to determine percussive peaks and peakamp~ is just like a amp threshold.

What a spaced out idea, sacrifice the beauty of the human voice by
exchanging it with samples... ;-)
I prefer beatboxed rythms by far over any sanmple based sounds. Ever
heard the Roxanne version made by Bauchklang...?

After you've done the tutorials, go to maxobjects.com and look for
bonk~. Its a specialised trainable beat detector. Do it with bonk~, it
should be straight forward...
