Max 6 audio anomolies

Am new to Max. Am on Windows 7 x64 running the x86 version of Max 6.

When in Max working with a patch with audio I experience choppy/clicks audio when:

- scrolling around patch
- alt-clicking an object to bring up help
- if I open Max Help (actually this completely freezes Max while it opens and it's very slow to open)

I've got default Audio Status settings in place. Using ad_directsound for driver. Have a RealTek HD onboard.

Absolutely never have had audio issues in Live 8.

Can someone help me?

Yeah, I read through that one yesterday before I posted this.

Do you recommend I try ASIO4ALL? That's the only thing I have not done yet.

Thank you very much for your reply.

yes, that is indeed the implication of my reply.

I went ahead and installed ASIO4ALL. Seemed to help substantially.

I'm still not 100% satisfied though. I am looking at replacing my sound card.

That delay in Max Help opening up still kills my patch though, and opening object help windows with an Alt-click. Not sure if this is a Max thing or my audio card just sucking.

dtr, thanks for your help!

SOLVED!

I enabled "Overdrive" in the Options menu.

I can now move between windows, scroll patches, open Help and Alt-Click objects without any audio issues at all.

For those interested, I've attached a shot of my audio settings.

Just a barebones Realtek HD Audio onboard chip with latest drivers installed. No ASIO4ALL.

Scott
