max 7: animation codec not supported?

Finally have a few minutes to play with Max 7 and am getting an error trying to load qt files using the animation codec (with alpha, i.e. million+ colors).
jit.movie: movie file unsuccessfully loaded - possibly unsupported codec
Is this codec supported in AVF? This has been my goto codec when jumping between mac & windows. All works fine in Max 6.
Just wanted to check before switching codecs.
Specs: MBP, 10.9.4
