When I set the first in/out for example to 0 0 0.5 I get signals on all 6 matrix outputs. They have individual levels (according to inputs) and the gain value of the first channel acts as global gain for all of them. Strange: the printout of matrix~ is ok, it reports only the first channel as open. But output is on all channels. Furthermore: setting any other input than the first one has no effect.

mc.matrix~ does not work here.

...in early stages of the patch, i tested with your exact matrix~ arguments:

....maybe if you post your patch, we could isolate the issue better between both our efforts(?).

I am on the same version of Max, but MacOSX 10.13.6 here.

(and now i've fallen deep into the rabbit hole noticing how there's voice-allocation built in to determine how to mixdown in various ways and there's so much to try out like mc.voiceallocator~, mc.target, mc.pack/unpack~, etc. ...gonna need to buy me a surround-sound system 🙈)

Seems to work for me here.
I created a test patch:

...in early stages of the patch, i tested with your exact matrix~ arguments:

Yesterday I tried a couple of times, always created new objects, then restarted Max and the computer but nothing helped. Left the patch open overnight, today made again an mc.matrix and it worked right away. Now I remember that, yesterday, [mc.matrix 6 6] had the same 7 outputs as the standard matrix. Today it has only 2 outputs as expected. Maybe it was just some glitch that will not be seen again.

confirming the bug, you saved me a lot of cables and meters ;-)

 see the bug early on when first creating the patch, but then it never appeared again(i'm not sure what i did....i either 'clear'ed the connection of all routing in the matrix~ and then rerouted individual channels afterwards, or i might have used the multislider thing in my patch to reset the connections individually, after which everything continued to work as expected without fail again).... so the bug might still be there, but there is definitely a workaround that seems to last once the patch is twiddled to work a bit(whenever i try my test-patch posted above, it never gives me the bug as it is now))

I have the same problem here with a m4l device. I get inconsistent results. I merged some objects in a patcher(comb filter patcher) that were leading in one of the inputs of mc.matrix~ and suddenly all the output channels were the same . The weird thing is that is working fine when the device is in edit mode but when i close the max window and try to use it inside ableton I get only one channel duplicated 20 times!

I would think you'd probably ask the following:

I don't think you and Peter have ever met at all, so how can you call him your 'homie' in the first place?! Do you just go everywhere thinking anyone will be your 'homie'? I don't think that's how it works. I think you need to establish a bit of a comfort zone with the person first(even though, on these forums, respecting comfort zones has not exactly been your 'forté', *nervous laughter* 😅)...
