Max 9.2 / storing coll data as txt in project search path
Hello!
I’m struggling with a rather annoying problem: Since a couple of days max stores .txt-files for coll always in /Programm-Folder. That doesn't make sense, since i checked all reasons (e.g. preferred folder not existing, wrong path or error in description of the path, …) It all looks as though it should work. But it doesn't. But the .txt-file will be read from project folder (as desired). The same problem appears using text-object or dict. Does anybody know some tricks to solve this?
Thanks in advance!
Best, Tim
how did you store them in the desired place before? or do you still do that?
many things done by objects will use the path which has been used last time in the max runtime (i.e. with the same application on this computer).
to avoid that from the beginning on, you should always force max objects to write to a certain path by providing it.
"write" and "writeagain" supports relative and global paths.
[thispatcher] - among other options - allows a patcher to know its own path, which can be helpful to write different files beside or below different max patches.
As Roman mentions you should not rely on saving with the filename alone.
Please see the special path prefixes which sound like they would suit your purposes, in particular Project:/path/to/filename.txt or Patcher:/path/to/filename.txt

Dear Roman and Joshua,
Many thanks for your helpful replies! I think I could fix it. but didn't really get why… i tried [writeagain] and later a [write "name.txt"]. It seems to work: the .txt files are now stored by [closebang] in the desired project folder (data) – and they were read from there. perfect! The search path reference page is very helpful and sheds even more light on it!
again thanks a lot for your quick response!
best!
Tim
