Max & Focusrite multi-channel audio?
Evening everyone.
So I'm essentially a Pure Data user but I'm slowly starting to get more and more frustrated with it for various reasons.
The final straw has come... I'm a Focusrite user; I've a Saffire Pro40 on my desktop and Scarlet 6i6 on my laptop. Recent communications with the Focusrite support team tells me that only outputs 1&2 are available due to WDM drivers not supported by Focusrite yet.
I've decided to take a look at Max to see if things are any different there. I've just downloaded the 30 day trial to see if it's worth the money and I' now trying to set up multi-channel outputs but having no joy.
In the Max audio options, it's only showing me 2 outputs. I open the I/O Mappings and for the 16 slots I can only choose "left output" or "right output".
It seems here that I can only use the 2 stereo outputs.
Can anyone clear this up for me please. I'm about to embark on my degree final project and it's imperative that I have multi-channel capabilities so if neither Max nor PD support Focusrite equipment then I'll have to buy a new soundcard.
The outputs are working just fine in Cubase; but I just can't figure out how to get it sorted in Max.
Thank you for your time and any assistance.
[dac~ 3 4 5 6 7]
Just use the arguments for the dac~ object to route the output. There should be some software for your focusrite aswell. Something like MixControl. In this program you should make sure that channel 3 is routed to channel 3 etc. Because a standard setting might be that channel 1/2 is also routed to 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8.
Oops this is entirely my mistake.
I had the wrong audio driver selected.... Rookie mistake :$
All sorted now. I think a purchase of Max is in order.
Thank you for your reply
Is it possible to use 2 different sound cards?
This isn't imperative but can be useful.
on OSX you can do that by building an aggregate device driver on the OS side. from what i can tell it will work with most audio interfaces (it should work with all proper coreaudio drivers).
on windows, no idea.
