Max for Live - Step Sequencer's & APC40 Hardware

I notice the only step sequencer that will come with msp for live is a 4 track, 8 step one. Seems very limiting. I'd want at least an 8 track x 16 step sequencer corresponding with the sample slots in impulse.

Does the APC40 have enough pads to fulfil this? Not really unless you could scroll down through the step sequencer tracks, in the same way you can with the clips in live. I wanted a fully implemented step sequencer, which I guess you can get from max msp but then the APC 40 seems lacking in supporting such a step sequencer.

Any comments?

I'm new to max BTW. Is there a dedicated max for live forum or any examples things max users are working on that can be used in the live environemnt?

Cheers,
Acid

hmmm....I thought the point of Max4Live was empowering you make things the way you want them? You can take the sequencer, expand it, and program it the way you want it to work....

Yeah, but i need midi hardware that's equally expandable to work with it. I'd want to make a 8 x 16 step sequencer, so what would you suggest for controlling it?

monome ? lemur ? deopfer ? genQ octopus ?

arduinome?

you could also program the APC to represent 2 16 step sequencers, and then have four of these to switch through, giving you, in effect, 8 16 step sequencers.

as for M4L, i think everyone is just waiting for it to come out before they start to work on any patches for it, seeing as no one but employees of ableton/c74 know what new objects will be included to create greater compatability between max and live.

The step sequencer that will come with the non yet released Max for Live will make extensive of use an object developed called live.step. While live.step will be the main object of the Step Sequencer, we are working on making live.step as open as possible to be used in other contexts, with more customization and behavior than the one used in our Step Sequencer device. I won't make any promise on any number of tracks/steps, but in the current state they both are higher than the one you mentioned above.

Stay tuned!

Cool, this is going to completely rock ass! Do you think the APC40 has enough scope for this kind of sequencer implementation? Really liked the vids i've been watching on the apc though.

I'm a bit tempted by maschine hardware after seeing its step sequencer, multi-layer control approach for use with live, maschine and traktor. When they add midi out and open it up it shoud be badass.

The other step sequencer's mentioned are really too expensive as just a midi controller for me.
