Max latest version and Windows 7 - compatibility?

Hallo everyone

I am considering upgrading to the latest version of Max, but I am also on the verge of downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 7 (probably Home/Basic SP1/2).

Are any users aware of compatibility issues between the two? Windows 7 is fairly old compared to Max 7.3.1; but I really need BEAP (and other new Max tools), for teaching purposes. My PC hardware is fairly lo-tech: on-board graphics, small RAM and HDD, but it runs Max 6.1.10 okay.

Thanks
Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Don't know if this will help or not but MAX 7 worked fine on my Windows 7 PC up until I switched to Windows 10 about a year ago (and has thankfully continued to work since then!) I'm not sure which 7.x.x version MAX was up to then but, other than my usual "how the hell do I do that?" woes, I don't recall any issues.

The system requirements page, which isn't that easy to find, also says Windows 7 is fine.

Cheers

No, that certainly does help; I found the sysreq page too, thanks for pointing that out.

On reflection, I might be more concerned about the wimpy Acer laptop I currently use for Max rather than the OS itself - it's woefully slow (my workhorse ASUS machine is waaay better spec, but runs Linux, so no Max). Just to be safe, I might get a slightly better machine, install Win 7 then take it from there.

And did you encounter problems in how it looked like?
I am working with Max7 in windows 7 and it looks like this:

I have tried to install Quicktime, but apparently it is not available anymore for windows. And even tried the 32bit version of Max, with unfortunately the same results.

The fpics are one thing, I could may be fix this in an unsexy way by downgrading the .pngs to the exact dimensions as I use in my presentation view. But what I would like to know is, how to get the font (and even the colours) look normal?

Thanks!
