Max MSP & Cubase/Logic

Good evening.

I just read a lot about Max MSP (quite late) and it seems like this would help me a lot to achieve quite a few things...
But i have a very basic question i need to get answered.

I understood that it is possible to use Max MSP as a standalone.
And that Max for Live is perfect for people using live.
But...
As good as it is, i don't use Ableton Live these days.
So...
Is it possible to use Max MSP inside Cubase and/or Logic?
If so, how is it possible? As a plug-in or as a rewire?
Or some other way?

Thanks a lot for reading this and bringing me a light on this...

Rewire - yes, but that means you can't get any audio input into max.
Plugin - no - you used to be able to build plugins with max, but no longer. I almost never did this because it takes a lot of overhead and you can't edit it in your DAW.
On mac I recommend soundflower or JackOSX (virtual audio devices that allow for internal routing of audio) and you can create virtual MIDI busses with AudioMIDI Setup.

On windows, I believe there is a windows version on jack in the works and I think they have released something. And there are ways of making virtual MIDI busses in windows with 3rd party software, but I dont know them.

I use jack on OSX to go between logic and max.

soundflower is amazing.

Seconded for Soundflower on Mac to communicate between any audio applications.

Yet Fritzyparzy seems to have asked for a dedicated plugin use, a request which i second.
Either Cycling should
- reenable VST plugin export, like it was possible in earlier max msp versions, or
- Steinberg and Cycling should talk about enabling a kind of max4cubase standard, or
- is there interested parties within the open source community, who'd program a bridge, so one could use an M4L plug in Cubase?

I'd be for all of the above.

Nowadays routing audio and MIDI data is the best way to interconnect Max and DAWs.

Generating AU or VST plugins inside Max will be nice, but, due to technical complexity, I'm not expecting this feature... but, from the other hand, the code export (gen~) is something, what can open new possibilities - it is relatively simple to make plugins based on code generated from gen~.
