Max msp is completely empty??!! whats wrong

    Sep 03 2010 | 1:02 am
So I borrowed a computer from school, it had max msp previously installed, the problem is that when I try to make a new object there are no new objects.. when I see the preference window it is empty.. everything is basically gone.
Also if I try to play it runtime it is also empty...
    what is the problem here?
    thanks for the help

can you do: command(ctrl on windows) N to open up a blank new patcher? then in a new blank patcher, double-click on the background to call up the new object pallette?
if not, your school may have had iLok or something to do with serial numbers that needs to be dealt with somehow(you could try contacting support or asking someone qualified to know about the installs on that particular computer at your school)...

I can call the new object pallets but, can't access any .mxo
when I try to type a etc the list appears empty... I would image that it was a problem finding the mxo but the preferences screen appears with all the tabs and words etc empty...
      it is very weird ...
school won't help me because they have no support for max msp . (they say is my problem).... can it still be something about access even though I can use objects? this is very strange

ya, if preferences screen appears empty, that's a problem you should try support for: support at cycling74 dot com
[Edit: if you can type into an object box, "groove~" and the groove~ object pops up allowing you to option-click on it and call up the help file, then you might be fine(maybe Jitter isn't installed)... but if not, then it's more serious...]

ya, well these are public forums, i'm not part of the company, i'm an unpaid user who has nothing better to do with his life ;) so if you want quicker/better answers, you might try support at cycling since they are the company that makes and sells Max and would be able to tell if you have any problems involving the serial number for your copy of max(problem is, you may still need to find the person that installed it originally because it's a paid-for product and you need proper serial authorization, etc.)
anyways, hope you figure it out, best of luck.

      Hi tsiwt,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please drop a note to support at cycling74 dot com and we will be happy to help you get Max working. Please include your OS, computer model, and version of Max you have installed. Wild guess, but it sounds like perhaps there is an issue with the fonts installed on your machine.

thanks Ben I already sent a question to support. the fonts definitely seem to be the problem, but how to go about fixing this is the question... I guess Ill wait for the reply.. thanks again

Just in case someone has this same problem.
As suggested by a max developer. Trashing the max folder from the user/ library/ preferences fixed it.
