MaxMSP CPU at 103% level without doing nothing !!

Hello,
can someone please help me to understand why the MaxMSP activity is so high (103 % of CPU usage dixit Activity Monitor) without doing anything : even if no patch is loaded .
Can it be a configuration (preferences) issue ?
or may it be due to a very old extensions or externals somewhere in my file preference option ? If yes how can I clean my database up ?

thanks for help

my configuration :
Model Name:    MacBook Pro
Model Identifier:    MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name:    Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:    2.33 GHz
Number Of Processors:    1
Total Number Of Cores:    2
L2 Cache:    4 MB
Memory:    3 GB
Bus Speed:    667 MHz

hi,

strandely, i had some trouble with cpu usage these days too (max 5.1.4).
my patch was running randomly fine/heavy cpu (163%), with a "relatively small" jitter patch. no idea what went on...

i use the same config.

Max 5.1.3 for mine
I have also Max4Live installed (if that does matter)

Thanks G for your support ,
for now I have disconnected my huge "database" folder in which I think there are very old extensions and externals that are surely disturbing ?
Now the cpu usage of Max/MSP is normally low (around 7%) when nothing is running .
Then I have to check one by one all the packages in that database and I'll find the culprit ;-)
I'll report here if that can help.

thx again
cheers
