max/msp question!
Hi,
sorry for the question, but can you tell me if with one license of max/msp I will be able to install it in 2 different conputers (my laptop and my home computer)?
Thanks very much!

That's a very meaningful message title hehe ;)
You can ask cycling 74 to allow you to install max on two computers with one serial. In my experience they are quite flexible, within reason.
Mattijs
thanks!
and sorry for the topic name... ;)

I don't think so. But you can put your license on an iLok dongle, and run Max/MSP on any machine that has a spare USB port for the dongle.

Cycling's policy in the past has been two authorizations. Certainly for people doing cross-platform work (which is a fair few). If you can provide a compelling and cogent reason they may authorize an add'l machine. My impression is that they've become a bit more critical about license requests (and temp licenses) as the user base has grown.
The information is all available on-line, try under Support/FAQ.
I currently have Max/MSP authorized on 2 machines. It's worth noting that you can give them an expiration date for the authorization and then authorize a new machine after the expiration, which is useful if you plan on replacing one of your machines before the next major release.
I haven't been a Max/MSP user for very long, but I assume when a new release comes out and you purchase an upgrade, you get to start over and authorize the new version on whatever machines you want?
In my experience, Cycling have an excellent record for granting additional
responses where the requests are reasonable, as yours appears to be.
iLok is also an option, but what has prevented me from going that way is
the 'lose your dongle and you lose your license' bit; well, that a hairy
moment when I almost lost my Pro Tools authorisation to an iLok snafu.
In short, just ask and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised,
Cheers

I have authorized max/mxp on my desktop and on my laptop. I would like to de-authorize my desktop so that when I get a new computer, I can authorize that computer. Is this possible?
How do upgrades work? Do they give you a new challenge that unlocks the new version? Do they give you a new challenge that "checks for" the old version before unlocking the new version? In order to put the new version on a new computer, will I need to transfer my old max/msp challenge from my desktop to the new laptop?
Myer
Hi Myer,
Although our policies state we will respond to two authorization requests, we are happy to authorize a new personal computer. There is no need to transfer anything from your old computer.
After installing Max/MSP on your new machine, you can submit the new text Challenge to our web form. You can create a text Challenge by doing the following:
1. Launch the application.
2. Click on "Authorize"
3. UN - CHECK "Use my iLok smart key"
4. Click "Next"
5. You will now see your text Challenge, copy and paste it into our web form:
https://cycling74.com/support/authorization
Just mention the reason for the request in the 'comments' field.
If you have any problems, just drop an email to support at cycling74 dot com.
All the best,
-Ben
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your prompt response! When I get a new computer, I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!
