.maxpat files opening Ableton version of Max 9 on Mac
Hello, I have an annoying problem. When I try to launch a .maxpat file on my Mac it by default launches the version of Max 9 in my Ableton 12. I've tried opening info on .maxpat files and direct them to my standalone Max9 but despite me forcing it, it doesn't keep.
The workaround is to drag the .maxpat file over the Max9 application in the doc which is what I do now. Do you have a suggestion how i can stop the ableton version of Max 9 hijacking opening my patches? thanks,
Try out the following steps:
Close all running instances of Live and Max.
Enter following shell commands in terminal
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain user killall Dock
Perform the cmd+i, Open with, change all.
Thank you @Rob. I had to try twice but it worked!
For anybody else having this issue. Run the first command exactly as is(e.g. open terminal, paste command, execute) Don't nav to that directory. Prob because there is -r (recursive) flag.
I did both killall Dock and killall Finder. Not sure if that's over"kill" -hehe
Then did change all on get info. Sometimes the change all button was greyed but I think you need select something from the menu to have it un-greyout.
Last, I restarted my Mac. Took a while to boot up back to the finder(don't panic). Once back opened my .maxpat by double clicking and voilla! it opened the right version of Max.
