mbox 2 as input
Hi,
Does anybody have any experience using an mbox2 as the input for max/msp? i can choose the mbox as the driver and device, but it doesnt show any input sources.
thanks
i have mbox 1and only tried this old model with max.
but if im not wrong,
you should open digidesign audio set up and set max msp as one of
the preferred app for mbox. If you dont do it
max see but cannot use mbox.
otherwise mbox 2 has a dedicated panel on audio preferences settings
on Macintosh, and maybe the problem it'sonly there...
last thing is that digidesign hardware seems to me a bit " reluctant"
to work with other app,
but the reason and the solution of this is still obscure to me...
hope this helps
cheers..
where would i fnd digidesign audio setup? sorry, i'm fairly new to macs, and haven't really ever tried this
thanks for your help
Depends on what OS and Digi driver version you're
using - check the compatibility pages at
Digidesign.com; using the wrong Core Audio driver for
the OS is just asking for trouble with Digi gear.
However, even using the 'right' driver you can still
experience problems; using an original MBox on OS
10.4.6, Max/MSP 4.5.7 and Digi CA 7.1, I still find
that sometimes when you change device in Max to Digi,
you get a warning message to the effect that the new
device can't be found and you'll have to re-start Max.
The only way to avoid this is to run the Digi Core
Audio Manager app. (in your ~/Applications/Digidesign
folder) before opening Max. A bit of a pain if you
forget, but at least there is a solution.
I haven't experienced this problem with any programs
other than Max, btw.

PS. The advice given by Tommy about having to tell the
Digi CA manager to use Max only applies to older
versions of Digi CA - round about version 6.1, things
became a bit more civilized and the CA Manager now
automatically assumes that audio apps might want to
use the hardware (well, duh!)
in the digidesign folder
where u have installed protools there's a blue icon with a white d.
that's the icon u have to double click, and the you will see the
diialog box where to set all the thing that fits for u.
i know your problem because also for me at the beginning was not easy to
find out,.
cheers
t.
thanks roger, nice to know that!
:-)
and sorry Osborn!
There doesn't appear to be any setup required for the Mbox 2. On my system
(after installing PT 7), it appears as a driver option on the DSP Status
window. Patching something together quickly shows that it works fine as
both input and output.

strange. the driver was available, but no inputs. I've upgraded to os x 4.6, but havent had a chance to try it yet.
thanks a lot
I assume you mean there is not "Input Source" option. Input Device shows a
"Digidesign Mbox 2" option, and Driver is loaded with "CoreAudio Digidesign
Mbox 2". That's all the more I need (in DSP Status) to make 'er run.
