Midi clock without start & stop

I have a hardware sequencer that I can sync to Ableton and it works fine. However, as soon as the transport in Ableton begins, it starts the sequencer on the hardware. I am looking to send continuous midi clock messages but use clips to send a start and stop message to the hardware since I want to be able to restart a sequence on the hardware without having to wait for the current sequence to end or stop and start the transport in Ableton.

I was trying to make this work and the messages are going to the midiout but nothing is happening to the sequencer. I have the output preferences set so that only Track is enabled and my track is definitely sending to the device.

Any thoughts on why this might not do anything?

Midi clock start/stop are special messages which Live can't send through the track output.

As a workaround you could send some CC or PC messages from Live to an external Max patch, convert there to start/stop and send to the sequencer.
