Midi controller working in standalone Max 8 but not through Ableton
Hi all,
Sorry if this is a basic thing but I am a basic human
I'm trying to set up an Akai midimix to control a Max device. When I open the patch in Max 8 it works fine, all controllable, but when I put it into Ableton the midi integration stops working. The patch itself still works and I can control it via the mouse, but not with the controller.
Full version of Max 8 and Ableton Live 12 Suite (tried live 11 as well but same result)
Max sees the midimix fine in midi setup and Ableton sees it as well
The midimix is specifically not set up as a control surface in Ableton in order to make it mappable to non-default parameters - it is still checked in Track and Remote for Midi in.
Is there an extra layer I need somewhere...?

Two possible avenues to explore:
Are you receiving the MIDI with
midiin~
?Are you using the MIDI Mapping tool to assign your controls? In this case, I think the the Max4Live device wouldn't see these.
Thanks for your response! I'm receiving with the midiin object, no ~. When I hook it up to a midi monitor it appears correctly when the patch is open on its own, but not as an instrument in Ableton.
I'm not using MIDI mapping for these, the mapping for Max is part of the patch itself
