midi foot controller
Hi there,
I know this has probably been asked hear a million times before
however I've searched previous posts without learning much from
them. Basically I want to purchase a midi foot controller to trigger
things in max (and ableton live). I have looked at reviews for a lot
of them online but I haven't read anything in relation to max
itself. I have looked into the behringer FCB1010, the Roland FC-200,
Voodoo labs pro control, yamahas MFC 10, and a few others; I've also
seen people talking about doepfer DIY kits. Im looking for
reliability above all else; can anyone please advise or share
experiences? You can email me off list if you'd prefer not to repeat
things that have been said already on the list,
thanks in advance,
eamon.

the FC 200 is the absolute king - but expensive
the behringer is ok, and cheap, i use very often rolands FC50 - i
don't like the yamaha as the CC inputs are the opposite of everyone
else......
but basically they all work in max, no problem
if you want the top of top, have money and are willing to carry the
bulky thing, the roland FC200 is the best (in versatility etc)
best

I use the FCB1010, it works great with both
Max and Live. I definitely recommend it.

I have the FCB1010 and am just starting to use it for both max and live, using a midi guitar/roland gi-20 and macbook pro. Would be good to share patches/experiences!
For live I programmed the 1010 to send a note mesage for each pedal push which makes linking to events in live very easy:)
In short the fcb1010 is a powerful tool i could ever need (although would be nice if it was usb equipped to manage pressets)- otherwise a very decent piece of kit imho
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I had been leaning towards the
roland for reliability's sake however this has given me some more
food for thought. I should probably try demo each product before buying,
Thanks again,
Eamon

If you want a simple, small footswitch
with not too many buttons on it, I would
recommend DigiTech Conrol8 - it's very
reliable.
I would definitely suggest staying away from the FCB1010 if you are looking for quality. I worked in music instrument retail for a short time, and I saw more returns of defective behringer gear than anything else. I own the FCB1010, and if it were being used for anything other than light use at home I would be in the market for a new controller. It feels cheap. The pedals have no resistance to them. It's way harder than any midi controller should be to program.
