MIDI SETUP in WINDOWS, NO "from MaxMSP 1"?
Using Max in Windows I've been trying to do the MIDI Setup to send MIDI data out from Max (in this case to another 3d programming environment called Touch Designer).
As is illustrated in the Getting Stated Manual, I was expecting to find "to MaxMSP 1" and "from MaxMSP 1" with appropriate abbreviations in the input and output columns, but they're not there, and I have tried restarting many times.
All I see in the Midi Setup are some output devices (in this case "Microsoft Synthesizer" and "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW").
Any idea why I can't see "to MaxMSP 1" and "from MaxMSP 1" in the Windows version of Max?
Yep, they're OS X only. I don't think Windows supports driverless dynamically created virtual MIDI busses like OS X does. OS X is NICE like that (I just wish some apps - cough, MOTU - would catch up).
On Windows, you have to use 3rd-party routing programs like MIDIYoke - these basically install a system-wide loopback driver which performs a similar function to the IAC bus on OS X.
thanks for the feedback, i've been struggling with that problem for ages now. then i guess the alternative is for me to use OSC to send messages out from max with the [udpsend] message. it's not well documented though. i don't understand from its help file, i don't really get what ip and port out i am supposed to use to send the messages, and i don't know where to go for more information on OSC in Max.
