MIDI stops working when audio enabled

In any patch I make, MIDI works fine, until I enable audio, them MIDI stops working (no sounds are generated) until I quit and restart Max. Any ideas why this is happening?

Launch Max, open the patch in Extras -> MIDITester. Does it work with your MIDI set-up?
Now, turn audio on. Does the patch behave differently?

I'm not using a midi setup per se, in Max I'm sending note numbers (messages) to [makenote] then [noteout], which works fine, but when audio is turned on in Max, it stops working. the Miditester doesn't assist with this issue.

This is the patch. It generates midi sounds fine, then when I turn on audio, midi stops working.

So, what you're using is the built-in MIDI synthesizer from the Mac (AU DLS Synth? should show up when you double-click on noteout). This is certainly Catalina-specific, so I hope some Catalina user will be able to help you.
That said:
- why 2 [makenote] objects? Maybe you want to hear the note twice. I was expecting something like:

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

- you are currently working with quite a small vector size. For "usual" work, I would use a larger value, why not 64 or even 256 samples.

Apologies for doubling up on the [makenote] I have updated the screenshots.

I changed the vector size to 256, MIDI works ok, then when I turn on audio, it stops. When I turn off audio, MIDI still doesn't work and won't work until I restart Max. It did this on my previous MacBook Pro on which I ran the OSX that was prior to Catalina.

SOLVED: As soon as I turned off 'Scheduler in Overdrive' it worked fine, without changing any other settings.

Nope, don't care. I just wanted to get it working. But while we're all making suggestions, I would suggest you temper your tone.

You didn't spot the scheduler issue either champ, so hop down off that high horse you're on.

Hi All, revive this topic.
I suddenly have the same issue today. it has been working before... but suddenly behavior strangely. it didn't solve the problem even I followed to turn off the "scheduler in Overdrive"...
the symptom is exactly same:"When I turn off audio, MIDI still doesn't work and won't work until I restart Max."
I am using Ventura MacOS. does anyone have any idea?
thanks

output to something else than AU DLS Synth to check.
