Migrating preferences/settings from Max 8 to Max 9?
How? Is there a foolproof way since some of the settings in Max 9 are new? And what about file paths? Basically how to migrate everything and not miss anything?

Not 100% sure it's fine to do this but you could try grabbing maxsearchpaths.txt and maxpreferences.maxpref from ~/Library/Application Support/Cycling74/Max 8 and past them into ~/Library/Application Support/Cycling74/Max 9 . The main difference I see for these files between Max 8 and 9 is that maxpreferences from Max 9 has more items to it, but I assume, opening Max 9 after having imported your Max 8 maxpreferences.maxpref file into it will fill the gaps with default values.
Otherwise just open both apps side to side and do the comparison by hand.
