Feedback will sound much better in gen~ because it's operating at sample rate rather than your vector size.

For what it's worth (I'm in the process of learning FM deeply too), there are excellent chapters on FM and PM in the Wakefield and Taylor Gen book and the Vol 3 of Cipriani and Giri!
