Monome
hello to all! Who Used monome? of convenience?Whether it is convenient in work with max5? Thanks =)
i have a monome myself, which took around a year to get building (i got the kit version). and only a few weeks ago i got a translucent case for it, for around $50. but the case was worth it because it has t-bar screws, so i can take it apart if it goes wrong.
they are great little things, because they are open-ended, freely assigned buttons to what you want. i made a few apps for it, plus have released something on my website to turn the 40h/64 version into a 64 step sequencer in your daw, rewired.
you can also use it without a monome, which is a nice touch i thought.
They are very convenient to use, but as long as you have a purpose for them (remember your spending up to $500 for the smallest one). i use mine to act as a step sequencer somedays, and other days, will use it for triggering clips in live.
there is a following now with monome, and the community does provide plenty of software to have fun with, and make great music. but to get the most out it, is by building your own applications.
hope this helped...
The monone , works great , looks beautiful ect.. The only negative thing (imo) is the price !!
if it is too expensive there is :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arduinome
&http://www.machinecollective.org/products/arduinome-kits/
i will build one and i think&hope i will not need one year!
The price also confuses me, but desire big to buy this thing, thanks for capacious answers, I shall think =)
machine collective was the place i got my case from. they do loads of other things, like kits. great.
although since i live in the UK, the shipping took a while to get to me.
but now i have the case, i am really happy now with me and my monome...

You might also want to check out the manta:
It's a different beast then the monome, I can see it as a fun enhancement to a monome setup.
disclaimer: Jeff is finishing his PhD at the CMC, this is part of his doctoral project. I don't receive any remuneration from sales of the manta, but I get to bask in reflected FAME and GLORY.
Hmmmm this Manta seems very interesting... I love the monome,
but one of its major drawbacks is that it is not touch sensitive.
Do you know if the Manta supports touch sensitivity?
One thing that is nice about the hexagonal layout is that
it will support a harmonic table. I have always wanted to
explore the performance possibilities of such a controller.
The answer:
"The Manta is a touch-sensitive controller for audio and video with a hexagonal layout and programmable LED feedback"
It's surface area rather than pressure/velocity sensitive. I really want one! Anyone want to go halves?

Very much it would be not bad Manta with a sensitive field =)
