multi channel sound in jitter
hello all,
i am searching for a way to play back a multi channel sound file (i.e. with sfplay~ )in a frame exact synchronization with a video file?
i am working on a surround-sound installation and as far as my researches could discover the ji.gt.movie object does not support the playback of video files with more than 2 audio tracks (the video would play, but i can only access 2 sound channels). Are there any clever workarounds or maybe externals that could help me?
best
jan
searching the forum for various terms involving syncing sound and video should reveal several solutions. the main idea is that you take a msp signal from your audio playback objects, and convert it into frame messages for qt.movie.
here's one way using groove~
Thanx - that opens up a range of possibilities.
I'm surprised you're saying you can't do that because I already did this. I had an installation with surround sound and video and I had all my audio tracks plus a smpte track for syncing the lighting playing from the QT movie with jit.qt.movie. QT is able to play up to 24 channels of audio. All you have to do is to configure AudioMidi Setup for surround sound.
i confirm. jit.qt.movie can play (like qt itself) more than 2 channels. maybe up to 24.
i recently did it with 6 tracks without problem.
sorry to bring this a bit OT, but my question is kind of similar. i asked in lots of other forums but got no response. Did anyone manage to playback a 5.1 DVD on osx (or via bootcamp) using a studio soundcard, e.g. motu 828 connected directly to speakers i.e. without any DTS/AC3 decoder? if so what player do you use that allows you to route the channels? I tried with audio midi setup but DVDplayer always plays back in stereo.
cheers,
oli
You can playback the DVD with VLC and it'll work fine with surround sound and a MOTU.
ah... sure i tried that with the 896 at work with no joy. Seems to work with my 828 at home though.
Thanks

Bump. Also trying to play multichannel audio out of jit.qt.movie — rendering prores .mov out of premiere with 8 channel uncompressed audio as 8 mono tracks. anyone have a way to monitor the discrete outputs of the jit.qt object in Max? any specifics on audio midi setup? I have it running through a MOTU with 8 channel outs, with "octogonal" speaker setup. I have a test signal in order playing out channels 1-8 — it plays out of premiere to the right channels but in Max it routes to different channels. Why?
thanks,
Max
apple+J in qt(7) (movie properties) / sound track / audio settings > ch 1 > discrete 0, ch2 >discrete 1...
Thanks for your reply — changing these settings on the movie file itself will affect its playback in Max? Is there anyway to do this without buying Quicktime 7 Pro for $30? I think I had that years ago but who knows where the registration code is...
