Multi Touch support?
Hi Guys,
What is the state of multi-touch support in Max 7? I've been looking at a few touchscreen Windows machines to turn into dedicated touch controllers, but searches regarding Max and multi-touch have not been encouraging.
Would anyone be kind enough to briefly summarize what the current state of multi-touch support is?
Thanks!
Thanks for your response. Is that object useable on devices besides the iPad? For instance - on a Windows touchscreen system? Is there any way to test without having an iPad?
It's iPad only. Depending on your budget/sense of adventure you could wire together something with parts from Adafruit.com and an Arduino and have it talk to Max (via serial, UDP or what you may have). But Mira is super elegant, so I would definitely look into that. The Mira multitouch object easily tracks multiple fingers and it gives you the positions of up to 5 fingers, pinch, zoom, rotate, etc. Have fun!
Well, nearly 3 years on now. Are there any
further updates on this, I will soon have a 10-point multitouch display which cost only $248 brand new.

Thank you, Sir Robert. ;-)
I get lag issues with Mira -- it's not responsive enough to rely on for live music performances. I've had better luck with TouchOSC in terms of responsiveness, but I still don't like being at the mercy of the wifi and cell reception (if I'm using my own phone wifi hotspot as a backup) at a performance venue. I have a gorgeous 15" Windows multi-touch screen and it's frustrating that I can't use that feature when I run Max on this computer. Lacking that option, hardware controllers work best for me because they are more responsive and dependable.
