Multiple audio outputs
Just now starting with Max/MSP, but I have a few questions:
I would like to have multiple output channels/tracks from Max/Msp. Is this possible? Kind of like a mixing board in reverse. The idea is to have a library of different sounds that Max randomly collects and distributes to different output channels/tracks. How to get this out of my machine is another story - any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
Assuming you've got your system properly set up, and Max/MSP is seeing your audio interface properly, that is no problem at all. Type the appropriate output channel #s into dac~ and send signals to the various inlets. Of course, scale signals with *~ or sliders as appropriate to prevent clipping. See MSP tutorial 1 and discussion of Audio I/O in the manual.
Deciding what signals to send to what output channels is more complicated, but not hard (depending on how hard you want to make it), and making those sorts of decisions is the fun part of working in Max.

Can't edit, even though I posted perhaps 60 seconds ago, but by "sliders" above, I mean the gain~ object.

For my "mobile" setup that I can carry around with me (I'm on the go quite a lot), I use a PreSonus Firepod. It has 8 ins and 8 outs, stereo master outs, preamp outs, S/PDIF in/out, a cue out, and connects painlessly through firewire. I've used it extensively and have had no problems thus far.

Thanks to all, I'm now getting into, have gone through the first few tutorials and started patching and am finding it quite easy to use and understand...Cheers!
