Music Composition Ideas using MIDI

    Hello everyone,
I am a fairly new user of Max, and am looking for some ideas using MIDI. I would like to create some patches using MIDI manipulation, but am having difficulty coming up with some creative ideas. I know the types of things that I would like to create but not sure as to the direction I should head (for instance, playing a note on my MIDI controller and using Mousestate to change pitch and velocity - just haven't figured out the patches yet!).
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

      It's as much a composition/improvisation question as a patching one :)
Several of the tutorials will help you out, for mousestate etc. The bottom line is: the more you know about how MIDI works, and also how Max works (fantastic for number manipulation), the more possibilities you have. Look to [zl] to store lists of scale degrees, for you can select from scales rather than purely randomly. Always have dynamics (changes in note velocity). Allow doubling of octaves when your notes are played (gates going to + 12 and + 24 for your pitch numbers). Etc....
The sky's the limit, what's most important is how you access the functions. So don't try to include everything, it's neverending. Include a few things that are intuitive, effective, and easy to manipulate. You'll have fun I'm sure :)
