Need help debugging crash on windows port of external

Hi folks, I've managed to port (ok, compile...) my scheme for max external on windows. I've got it building on VS 2019, and am successfully making a mxe and mxe64. Max on Parallels is recognizing the object is there, in that I can put a s4m.scm object into an object box, and then Max crashes before anything else happens. On mac, I know how to see what went wrong in xcode, but I'm at a loss on windows where to go from here. Any suggestions most appreciated!
