need help with MS Pinky (New To Max Msp)

sorry if this question is being asked in the wrong place but I wasnt sure where to ask it.

Ive recently bought Max Msp Jitter and Pinky, Ive managed to get the included patch working which uses the MPFT~ and MPFS~ objects. Its all working fine, but I can't get the 'signed signal velocity' to go into a - and play the wave file backwards (if thats what needs to happen). So even when im spinning the record backwards its progressing forwards if that makes sense.

Im pretty stuck for ideas why this is not working or what to do to rectify the situation.

Im using the 3rd generation vinyl if this is necessary information, im also using V4.5.5 of Max on a dual 1.8 G5 running panther 10.3.9

any help would be really appreciated, thanks in advance

Chris

what are you using to play back sound - the mspinky objects? or are
you using a buffer~ or something else? post a sample patch and I can
likely help.

im using the MPFS object.. To be honest I have only just started playing with the program, and am fairly new to max msp as well, I was starting out using the MsPinky_absolute_mode.mxb and managed to get it to play an mp3 back but then if I turned the turntable off and manually spun the record backwards it would still play the song forwards, and likewise if i scratch it keeps edging forwards.

just posted similar post on Ms Pinky site, I gave all the info on what equipment I am using so I will post that as well in case there is a problem there.

Cheers for your help though, really appreciate it!!!!

Chris :)

using 3rd generation vinyl, Ortofon Concorde needles, turntable is going to a Stanton RM-3 mixer, the mixer is going to input 1 of my MOTU 896 which is connected to my dual 1.8 osx 10.3.9 G5. im opening the MsPinky_absolute_mode.mxb patch which was supplied with the Vinyl.

For what it's worth, I've had direction problems with Ms. Pinky when
it's only getting a mono signal. Perhaps one of your cables is loose?

cheers Jesse,

it is definite stereo, using channels 1 +2 of the Motu into Max.

looking at the possibility that its because I'm not using a phono preamp, I have the decks running to my mixer(which I assumed had a preamp built in) then to the Motu, into max msp adc~ 1+2 input and 1+2 output

Does anyone else have Mx Pinky running through a mixer? according to the Ms Pinky creator it needs a preamp so I am going to invest in one

thanks for helping out guys!

well I dont know what I have done but it seems to have just started working? I'm still running it through the mixer, but I may look at investing in preamps cos then i can take it live and use the cue function to hear the songs instead of hearing the droning noise of pinky!

Lets hope it wasnt a fluke lol

Now that I have got it working I feel it fair to say that Ms Pinky is one of the most genius things I have ever encountered. Combined with Max Msp I have some one of the best gadgets for music on the market, my turntables! acting like a gloryfied I-pod

Cheers everyone

Speaking of Ms. Pinky and Max, I just finished a project using both:
