you need to use the 32 bit max version .


Max 6.1 32 and 64-bit work great on Windows 8.1. I've been running 8 and then 8.1 (when it was available) constantly.

Max 6.1 x64 has limitations in jit.qt.movie on all Windows x64 operating systems. More specifically, it doesn't use quicktime. Instead, it uses DirectShow. Therefore, it can only play movies which have compatible DirectShow decoders installed.
