Hi,

I published aka.wiiremote 1.0B5 at:
http://www.iamas.ac.jp/~aka/max/#aka_wiiremote

In this version:
- Nunchuk is supported.
( Classic Controller is NOT supported.)
- device address is supported.
- outlets and output messages are changed.
- some input messages are simplified.
- help patch is expanded for Nunchuk.

Thank you.

Best,
Masayuki Akamatsu

On PPC G4 PowerBook, nunchuck, LED, IR, and vibration are not working
for me. Just wanted to see if anyone else is having problems.

Thanks,
Keith

I've just confirmed it on my PowerBook G4. Thank you for reporting.

I've changed my development environment to MacBook Pro and PowerMac
G5 + BT adapter. I forgot to check it with PowerBook well.

With my PowerMac G5/2.5Quad + D-Link's DBT-120 adapter, all functions
seem to work fine.
But it fails to connect/disconnect in rare cases ( not so often, I
believe..).

With my MacBook Pro, it works well.

I don't know the difference between these systems but I'll check it
further with PowerBook G4. Please let me know the other working status.

Thank you and sorry for the inconveniences.

Best,
Masayuki Akamatsu

Keith,

this may be the same issue I've been having with the previous version
of the object. I've found that I actually need to sync twice to get
the LED and vibration to work, and it needs to be a red button sync.

Hello Masayuki Akamatsu,

my first look into this forum and the first thing i saw is your external for the Wii-Remote: i ran outside, got myself a controller, hooked it up to my Mac and boom: it's just working.

This is so unbelievable great: it's just the interface i allways dreamed off (and never have been able to afford...).

Thank you sooooo much!!

Best wishes,

Claas Hanson

What do I need to get the wii remotes working? Do I need the
sensorbar too? Not interested in the wii itself, and I can't tell
from the Nintendo site if the sensor bar is available as a separate
item.

All you need is a bluetooth equipped mac and the wiiremote. You can
use the tilt/accelerometer sensors straight away. For the IR you can
either solder together some IR emitters (there;s some instructions on
Akamatsu's web site) or even use candles (also on the site).

Hey, I updated a patch im working on to 1.0B5. I can get everything working (all the new Nunchuck stuff), however when I activate the nunchuck, it seems that my IR stops working-- but as soon as I de-activate IR, the nunchuck starts working again...

hopefully we can figure this out, it would be great to use IR and Nunchuck accelerometer/Joystick at the same time!

Hey, All.

I just wanted to wake this thread up again, but changing the subject slightly. After hours of staring at the pretty lines, I've yet to figure out a good way to actually put this snazzy little thing to use... sad, but true.

After the necessary smoothing and simplifying (multisplit or, in my case, Lclose) of the input, I've been trying to implement simple pattern matching. My thought has been to "record" a set of exemplars -- gestures which serve as examples of gestures I want Max to learn to "recognize" -- then to test live input against the exemplars, and pick the best match. However, I'm actually finding this much more difficult than I originally thought it would be...

I'm not giving up on this approach yet, but I wonder whether people might be interested in sharing their experiences with, and patches for, using the wiiremote? I often learn better when I'm looking at actual examples, and I could really use some help. I'll certainly post my work if and when I get something worth posting!

thanks,

J.

Someone over at www.em411.com has posted a patch for use with the Wii
remote. I've haven't tried it yet, and it doesn't appear to involve
the sort of gesture recognition you are writing about, but it is an
example of trying to control loops using the remote. You can find it
here: http://www.em411.com/blog/2087/0/Wii_remote_max_patch.html.

Thanks, Brad. I'll check it out.

hey, jmb... (that felt like a typo to me!)

Without jitter I can't get this patch going, but I've pulled out your analizar sub-patcher, so I'll see if I can sort through what you're doing in there.

thanks,

J.

I'm still anxiously awaiting wii remotes to be back in stock - another month
perhaps...

in the meantime, check out mnm (part of the ftm toolkit from ircam)
there's a gesture recognition demo there which I've adapted to work with
gestures an airstick. I expect that it would be relatively straight forward
to substitute the wii remote into this patch.

happy to share the patch I've put together - they will appear on my website
eventually, but email me offlist in the meantime.

cheers,

mark

im not sure if you got my email, but im interested in the patch and anything else wii / gesture related that might spark some interesting ideas while i think about exactly what I want to do with my wiimotes :)

thanks!

I've started working with the aka.wiiremote object about 2 weeks ago.
Finaly got a nunchuck adapter (It was sold out everywhere I went) and
got my leds setup to have the IR data working.

I get the data from the IR sensor just fine, but when I activate the
nunchuck, I do not seem to get the data anymore... If I deactivate
the nunchuck, I get my IR sensor data back. I've noticed this
behaviour while using the help patcher that comes with aka.wiiremote.
I haven't done any extensive testing besides that. Before I dig
deeper, I'd like to know if anyone got the same behavior and if so
what is your take on it?

I do have another question for the people that are a bit more
knowledgeable with electronics that I am... I've used these LEDs to
make my 'sensor bar' (http://www.ortodoxism.ro/datasheets/toshiba/
2337.pdf) and it seems to lack power if I get to more than 6-7 feet
from the screen the signal seems to go away. I guess my diodes are
not emitting strongly enough. I'm using the 5V of a USB cable as my
power source. One diode is connected in series with a 76 Ohm resistor
then to the ground ( 5V - 1.35V) / 0.05A = 73 Ohm. I have a pair of
diode separated by about 7-8 inches on top of my iMac

Thank you,

Antoine Lafontaine

I'm not sure if I missed something. I've been searching for the past few months for a driver/external/etc. that works fully with PPC Macs. I don't have the cash at the moment to pick up a fancy new Intel laptop.

I have a few patches using the aka.wiiremote object, but I would really like to be able to use the infrared and nunchuck. Anyone have a hint on where I could find something that will do all of that on a Powerbook?

Thanks!
Charlie

Hi all,

It's a little bit hard for me but I'm improving the reliability on PPC.
I hope I can release the next version soon (?).
Thank you for your patience.

Masayuki

That's great news, Masayuki. Thanks for your work on that object. I am enjoying using it even without the extra functionality.

That would be amazing, Im already using your abstraction for hooking up my space navigator, and I can use the wiimote, but it runs really slowly (I get accelerometer + button data about every 300ms or so)

Thanks so much for these Masayuki, there great for the community!

Any chance this object will be released for PC any time soon?

(or maybe I'm just not aware that it works on a PC yet, but last time I tried it, I couldn't get it to load properly)

In the meantime, I'm stuck using GlovePIE and MIDI to get data from the Wiimote to Max/MSP...

Hi Scott,

Sorry but I have no plan to port it to PC because Bluetooth API on PC
is quite different from on Mac.
