I have a very specific recording project which requires a noise-gate. What do Forum members recommend that's software-based? Are there free tools available? What about a Max/MSP-based patch?

there are plenty of free plug-ins around, just do a google search... if you want to do it in max, have a look at [omx.comp~]. it's a bit unintuitive, and not very well documented, but quite good. aa

      Not very well documented? What?
(scroll to the bottom of the page for lots of non-documentation)

      wow, this is cool!
I remembered just 3 or four of them, and much less detailed... either they are quite new, or I am blind!
but I'd love to have all those nice real world omx.comp~ conversion formulas in the doc too - especially the one about the ratios, which is frankly cumbersome... I almost went mad some time ago when I had to find it out...
thank you very much anyway aa

Thank you for the tips. As for external 'plug-ins', I realize that there are plenty around, but is one as good as another?
      Best, Philipp

10 years later...I was looking this up, and this is the first result in the search, so I'll append with my simple solution that uses slide~.
