"nopointer" problem with wacom on intel
Hi everybody,
I recently opened an old 'wacom' patch in Max 4.6.3 on my brand new MacPro and I'm having some problem with the mouse pointer.
On my G4, I had no problem; sending the message "nopointer 1" disconnected the wacom from the pointer. But since I've tried it on intel, the message doesn't work with the latest Wacom driver; I have to install an older driver and it works. But when I restart the computer, the pointer is again connected to the wacom.
I have to install again the older driver to make it work again... Pretty frustrating, isn't it ?
Did someone experience the same problem ? Does someone have an idea ?

I have a similar problem...
the wacom object reports that the driver is too old (even though it is the latest)
When I set nopointer 1, a few minutes later the tablet starts controlling the pointer again. Then I have to restart max in order to reset.
did you contact the author of the external?

I've got the source code and I'm looking into this. Unfortunately, we're all fighting some other deadlines here at CNMAT, so we won't be able to move very quickly.
I'm about to to a big performance using Wacom Driver 4.9.6-3; that still seems fine to me. I'll have to see what's different about 6.0x

Yes I have the same problem! With an older driver, it works a couple of times, then this strange behavior is happening again.

I also have to get a new tablet for an installation. Is the wacom object detecting all of the most recent range of tablets, or should I get a specific one? I would be particularly interested in getting the Bamboo one.

I expect it should work; the wacom object is broadly tolerant of tablets. However, I haven't tried it. Let me know if it doesn't work.

I just gave the wacom a (really) quick test. I own a Bamboo (the black model) and the wacom object works with it. The nopointer message is broken as well, though, as mentionned earlier in the discussion.

The "no pointer" problem appends with the 6.XX versions of wacom drivers ; It works fine for me with older versions of the driver (4.9.6-3 or other depending of the model of your wacom tablet).
I will e-mail wacom about that as soon as possible.

Hey guys,
I just installed a the latest driver for the Wacom Bamboo on my MacBook Pro running Leopard (10.5.2), and thought I would give everyone a quick update.
First, I installed the driver and software that came with the tablet out of box (this said it was the latest version for the Bamboo - that is, v 5.0.5-3). Instantiated the wacom object - Max window said no driver detected. I went to the help file, polled it and after a few seconds Max crashed.
I did this several times, restarted Max, restarted my computer, etc., with several different configurations of the object, all caused Max to crash after a few seconds.
I then uninstalled the driver and software, and tried to install the recommended v 4.96-3 driver. This installed fine on Leopard but didnt' recognize my Bamboo tablet (I expected this). Started up Max, instantiated wacom object, no complaints in the Max window, it recognized the driver, but the Bamboo was only controlling the mouse cursor, and not sending any info to the wacom object (the tablet apparently does not need a driver for simple mouse control on my system).
So then I uninstalled the 4.96-3 driver, downloaded the v5.0.5-3 driver from the Wacom website, and reinstalled it. NOW I instantiated the wacom object, get a message in Max window saying "driver too old", but viola, everything works fine. This was the same driver as I installed originally, except not off of the installation disc, but downloaded from the website. I have no idea why it works now, but it does.
Some details about nopointer bgrd:
If I set nopointer and bgrd to 1 right at the beginning, I can then move back an forth between other applications without the object losing control. It works great! I don't get any info from the four buttons or the scroll pad though (not sure if this reports on other wacom models).
There it is - hope it helps. I'm running Max 4.6.3 with Jitter 1.6.4-x2, by the way.

I've just posted a new, osx version of the wacom object at:
It no longer complains about drivers being too old, and works with the most current versions of the Bamboo and Intuos3 drivers. It now has assist strings.
Known issues:
"nopointer 1" is still a problem when Max loses focus. Would anybody be disturbed if nopointer 1 also set bgrd to 1, which solves this problem?
nopointer 0 doesn't work.
mouse mode doesn't work right.
I need to update the menu output to populate the menu properly
Any other bugs I'm missing? In the long run I'd like to convert it to OSC-Style messages, like the wacom wrapper that is also part of the CNMAT downloads.

just so i'm clear... is there any combination of object/driver that allows you to have the tablet pen behave as a mouse AS WELL AS getting all the tilt, etc., info from it through wacom?
that would appear to be impossible with my testing thus far...
