object sizes in Object defaults?
Hello,
Is it somehow possible to define the default size of an object? I was expecting this in Object Defaults, but it's not there.
For example, the toggle, button and inlet/outlet objects are to my taste pretty big by default. Can I change this somehow?
Can we have default sizes for all objects in Objects defaults in a future version of Max?

I think you are misunderstanding what "Object Defaults" is. I agree that it's ambiguously named. This is really for visual characteristics which are by default not saved in a patcher. So it's more for theme-like behavior rather than setting up initial attribute values which *are* stored in your patch. Given this, I think that it's easy to see why you don't want the size of a toggle to change between themes, since boxes would overlap when opened on other users machines.
I'd recommend you check out prototypes for different sized toggles, or other things that aren't part of "Object Defaults".

Yes, I see, that wouldn't be good.
Maybe the default sizes could be set on a new tab in the Max preferences? Like default font, system font, grid size etc? These options are also overruled by what is stored on patch level, so it wouldn't break existing patches, just provide a default for new patches.
The default sizes are stored somewhere, right? All I'm suggesting is providing a way of customizing them.

I will do that, thank you!

I would like that too, maybe there is a way to customize it with
maxinterface.json?
Easiest would be to store a prototype, and get Max to use that instead
of the original one...

No there's not.

As Joshua said, prototype is the way to go.

Its not, as its not typing a single letter...

So where are the default sizes stored? Not in a editable file?

The default size is stored in the object itself. Use the prototypes!

Ok, so instead of hitting t for toggle and then resizing it, using prototypes I can hit t for toggle, then right click it, and then select the size I want from the prototype submenu. I might as well resize it manually.
Prototypes don't really make it any easier or faster, just different.
I was hoping for a way to set the default for objects that are used a lot, like toggles, buttons, inlets, outlets, sliders etc.
I would like to just hit n, type inlet and get the size I want, hit t and get the size I want, hit b and get the size I want.
I understand that if the defaults are compiled into the objects, this is not possible.
Thanks for your time.

Maybe, for some future version of Max, it would possible to set which
prototype was the default version.

well it can make it faster because it recall a precise state of one
object. It just depends of the habits.

Maybe some day.

But not even close as fast as typing a single letter. (And I can set a
precise state faster than choosing from a menu which has to open before...)
We want default sizes for instantiation, and my suggestion is to choose
from existing prototypes...
Fine for Max 5.4.3 there are more important things to do...

very, very true!
