on mac: does max 6 only run on 32 bit
on mac: trying to switch to 64 bit, what do i need to do.
tried applications > get info > reads open in low resolution,
doesnt make sense.

Max6 is almost 10 years olds… it did't run in 64 bits :

But Max 6.1 could run under 64 bits :

and Max5 could run on PPC :-)

Max 6.1.10 32 or 64 bit
On systems that can run 32 and 64 bit applications one can select
using info
if "Open in 32-bit mode" is unticked, it would run as 64 bit.
But if you are running OS that can run only 64 then ....
You can get rid of 32 bit by stripping 32 bit code
ditto --arch x86_64 path to original Max folder path to copy of max folder
or editing plist file
Stripping the 32 bit code is a more reliable solution.

sorry, forgot, my OS is mojave 10.14.6. the reason of my research is that i want to upgrade to catalina which runs on 64 bit, so then you need a max that runs on 64.

More important question is if you will be able to install interlok extensions and authorise Max 6 on catalina.
You should contact support about that.
Another issue is that Max 6 has no way to communicate with Catalina security
asking for rights to use mic input or camera etc.
I would think twice before updating system, if you need Max 6 or not.
never heard about interlok extensions, authorization & communications issues.
i guess the best thing to do would be is to wait untill issues are fully resolved with max & catalina.

Nothing will be resolved with Max 6 and Catalina.
Max 6 is officially not suported, but in first place one can't install Pace - Interlok extensions needed to authorise max 6.
Max 7 & 8 don't use pace anymore, but own authorisation process.
then the only thing left to do is to upgrade to max 8, right?
any problem with 8 & catalina?
Max 8 is maintained and will receive updates and fixes,
and is the only Max generation officially suporting Catalina.
Just don't install Big Sur.
Max 6 runtime will be able to run on catalina in 64 bit mode,
only few things would be somewhat restricted, depending on
system settings.
a sinuous road is all this and it shouldnt have been this way.
