One more time layout, sorry

Dear All, please excuse that I come again with layout, but I want to spend my time patching and not fixing layouts.
I am trying to change the layout so that it is better readable for me (I know, I know, some people read the new layout better, I do not). I changed the color style for objects, messages, button, toggle and yes ether appear again in the color scheme I created, but then I open a new object, like "playlist~" and it is again in the standard scheme, so I change the colors to make them fit to my concept, I redefine the style, I save the patcher as a template, nothing. Each time I open a new patcher, "playlist~" appears in the standard colors. Also, when I open an old (MAX 6) patch, all colors are standard. This cannot be meant seriously. I totally agree that it is a good idea to be able to make your own color scheme. But it should be consistent, i.e. if I change the color for objects, ALL objects should take over this scheme. And older patches should also change to the set color scheme, else the whole thing is totally annoying.

Dear C74 team, I certainly appreciate your efforts to make MAX better with each upgrade. But this change with the color scheme only makes us busy to get it right. Please change this. You can leave the standard as it is I don't mind, but please give us few stupid ones the option to switch back to the old layout color scheme. Plus borders please. The best would be a menu choice: "MAX 6 color scheme", in other words one click makes the whole layout look again like 6 (if possible also without the in my eyes clumsy edgy shapes and too thick lines on top and button of objects - but I can imagine that that is too much. But colors should be possible. OK? Thanks so much)

Always positive

Hello Hans,

have you figure this out yet. I've spent countless hours on this trying so many different different sequence of saving styles/Inspector style/ create template/ Default for new patchers/ etc etc... in many orders. Never ever works, ever.

I thought that maybe with the new Max7.0.1. It would've been different, perhaps even borders!! but no dice this time around :,(

Let me know

Hi Phiol,
no change at my place, but I spoke (e-mailed) with a C74-person and he said that they will publish some more info about layout and color scheme in december. So we need to be a bit patient. Still I hope for 7.1 as well and for borders.

Best

Hi Hans,

In the mean time I got this help from Ben one of the C74 support techs,
I follow his steps and it worked! I customized objects to my taste and upon re-opening, they maintained their custom state :-)

Here are the steps

1. in a default patcher, make a bunch of objects and then in the Format Palette, change them to whatever colors you want

2. select all the objects in the patcher

3. in the Format palette, make a new style - this style will be for multiple objects

4. select the patcher to activate it in the Format palette

5. In the Style menu (I believe he meant in the global inspector menu), select the style you just made, applying it to the patcher level

6. delete all of the objects in the patcher

7. save a new template (in dropdown file menu "create template") and make it your default

Hope this helps

Good luck and happy patching

Hi Phiol,
thanks. Well after some trials following your instructions I think I managed although there are inconsistencies in the layout. For example, I want the button and LED to be red, no the keyboard-slider has red keys (???), for the regular slider background and off are somehow replaced, at least the idea is weird, because the regular object's border color becomes the off color for the slider, which makes it look different from all other objects. The tab does not take over the background. It looks all very soft, like not sure that you will get consistent colors. Well....See attached image

Hi Hans,

There is still little glitches in the styles but in general it works.

What is a must for it to work.

Step 1. is important.

-you must start from a blank "Default Patcher Template" and choose "Default Max7"
-you cannot copy/paste objects that you had already done your custom colors. You will have to start from scratch. one by one

-In the inspector window, make sure the "Appearance style" has nothing selected in it's umenu

then all the steps mentioned in the previous thread.

The Glitch/bug:

-Gradients objects do not work.
For example, [message and umenu] would not keep my custom colors. Workaround, once you have started a new patch, reselect you're "custom_style" in the inspector Appearance and now it should work. (so yes, for now, as we start a new patch we will we have to make it a habit to always select our "custom_style" in the inspector window's appearance style.)

-Also, when you open you're older Max6 patches and/or the help patch and want to apply your new custom style template, make sure that in the "Format" dropdown menu you have selected the "cope style to library".

Once you've done this, you will be able to apply you're custom style to older/help patchers and resave them with your custom look. To do so, you open Inpector's Appearance again, and select your "custom_style" that will be in the Library style.

The gradient bug is really a bug that c74's Ben was able to reproduce and will be investigating further. I really , really hope they give us a borderline option in Future Max7 increments.

Good luck
