open amxd files in a Max patch
Hi,
I'd like to distribute some M4L patches to people who don't necessarily own Live, via patch that they could open with Max Runtime. Is there a way to open a M4L device directly into Max/MSP without owning Live? For example, something that loading a amxd file into poly~ or into vst~ (of course with all Live-specific features being disabled). I know of course that copy/paste works quite well to convert amxd patches into maxpat patches. But as I have a significant number of M4L patches, that I constantly update, I'd rather like to avoid doing such manual operations each time I create a new version of the amxd file.
The method of editing the .amxd file (removing the first binary characters before the curly bracket and replacing the extension from .amxd to .maxpat) is not reliable, as it works for some patches and not for the majority of them, as I could notice (Max just does not open the patch).
Any ideas?
Best
Alexis
Not that I know of. BUT max 7 will be able to load max for live patches directly.
Thanks for the info, let's wait a little bit then.

Sorry did not read well enough
Hi,
I have a sequencer patch for M4L that I can open in Max 7, but how do I get it to start?
I have activated the transport but nothing happens.
Is there some Alberton Live "play" commando that is missing?
I've also tried this and it didn't work.
Apparently M4L devices can only be controlled from Live's transport.
Hi There
Any updates to this thread for Max8?
I am trying to run Robert Henke's GranulatorII from the plugin's menu on the left hand side of the patcher window - as an amxd, but I can't workout where the "Live Devices" files are stored on my computer – they dont show up when I search for them in my MacOS Finder… I want to find out how to install GranulatorII and other great M4L devices –so that I can run them from inside Max8… searching through these forums, I've not yet found how this is done
Ah... persistence furthers! I needed to install Live first, then launch the Live .amxd file - from the finder - which installs it into Live: then click the little 'patcher' icon in the M4L instrument/effect GUI in Live… this the opens the instrument in Max
