OpenGL 3 only selecteable option in bundled Max 8.5 Live10 Suite?

Somehow I can't select OpenGL 2 no more in bundled Max in Live 10 Suite. In fact, there's no option at all. Unfortunately OpenGL3 makes my patch crash (segmentation fault). Is OpenGL 2 not supported anymore?

In Live 11 with OpenGL 4.1 everything works fine.

Sorry to hear about your crashing troubles! Can you let me know which version of Max you are running with Live 10?

If you are unable to change the preference then you can try loading the following:

  • create a message box with the contents ;max glengine gl2

  • click the message box

  • restart

Thanks Rob. Sorry, I forgot that M4L has its own update cycle. So it's Live 10.1.43 and Max 8.1.11.

When I change to the not bundled version, it works fine.

So when I change the gl version by using the message box, it does change but not until the next restart. when I then try to load my patch it instantly crashes. when I then open max from live by loading the default max audio effect, I can see in the preferences that it changed back to gl3. Am I missing something here?

Hey Rob, do you have any idea here?

sorry it's not clear to me what is working and what is broken.

When I change to the not bundled version, it works fine.

change what to the not bundled version?

So when I change the gl version by using the message box, it does change but not until the next restart.

This is expected, you must restart for the engine change to take effect.

when I then try to load my patch it instantly crashes.

what patch? loaded in exactly what version using exactly what engine?

It might make sense to install the GL3 package for your Max 8.1.11 version which will allow you to workaround the issue with the preference menu not allowing for changing the glengine.

  • Launch Live 10

  • Launch the bundled Max

  • Open the Package Manager and search for GL3 and click install

If installing the GL3 package for the old Max doesn't fix your crash, you may want to set the Max 8.5.x gfxengine Preference to gl2 prior to switching to the old version.

Feel free to contact support if this doesn't help.
