opening Max 6 patches in Max 7 (GUI issues)
This is probably either really easy or impossible. I simply want all my pre-Max 7 patches to open with black type in objects with white backgrounds and for the patcher background to be very light, so that they look more like their original versions and so that integer and float boxes stand out better. I assumed it could be accomplished by altering the "Default Max 7" template, but that doesn't work.
I have no idea why it doesn't work. Obviously there is some sort of default setting that is "flipping" the look of virtually all objects in Max 7. Given the way the templates are set-up, one would think Max 7 must be referring to some sort of template for deciding how objects should look, unless the patch being opened has customized setting for the object.) It certainly seems like there ought to be a way to do this on a global level rather than have to do it one patch at a time for 100's of patches. Any clues?
To my knowledge this cannot be done, which is a problem. Check out this thread; Phiol took the time to explain how you can set up custom templates. Not sure if it can solve this particular problem though.
Thanks for the link. It was informative and I know a lot more about the ins and outs of the new Max 7 interface. Unfortunately, even knowing this little "trick" of applying styles, many of the ~750 tutorial and help files I use for teaching (classes start this week!) would need to be individually customized, to my liberal use of color panel objects to help organize my patches for better pedagogy.
It's great to have Phiol's walkthrough, but something is still unclear to me: did cycling74 make available a Template "as close as possible" as the Max 6 look ? Or have any such templates been shared on the forums?
(I'm speaking, like what has been discussed in other Max 7 GUI threads, about size of objects, and use of contrast and colors for immediate readability of a patch - can't understand why a simple object in Max 7 has a greater height than in Max 6).
I find it still hard to believe that a "legacy mode" was not built in Max7, or made easier to emulate - or I'm really missing something.
Thanks for any tip.
