I've somehow accidently converted a patch into a text document and can no longer open it with max. I've tried adding .pat and .mxb on the end of the name of it but it will not turn back into a max patch. Does anyone know how I can turn it back into a max patch from just the text?

Yes but it only appeared as text in the empty patch

if not, ad it and try again with "from clipboard"

you could paste the text here on the forums and let us all try. otherwise, it's kinda confusing, i've never had any problems pasting text from 4.6.3 into 5 nor had problems converting Max5 into text. if you are attempting to paste Max5 text into 4.6.3 then i can see the problem but it doesn't sound like you're trying to do this because when you said you tried pasting into an empty patcher you got "max v2..." which is the old style text. so there must be something wrong somewhere in the format of your text and we can only help you by seeing the text itself at this point.

and by the way, C74 created a new text format which is much better. it's called "Copy Compressed"(check it out in the Max5 'Edit' menu). It's better because it takes up less space so I don't think anyone else would ever want C74 to bring back the "old" long-winded, archane text format.
