Opening plugin windows from M$L

I'm using Ableton Live for live performance. I have a collection of MIDI clips that use different plugins (AU's) for sound generation, and I need to see the window for each plugin when the clip using it is active. Ableton doesn't automatically show plugins as focus moves from one MIDI clip to another. Instead, a mouse click is required on a very small button in a menu bar in the instrument panel -- not very convenient during performance.

Can MaxForLive be used to automatically open the plugin window associated with a clip when the clip is displayed in the instrument panel? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks very much,
Michael

You can embed plugins into M4L devices (using the [vst–] object) and open their window with the 'open' message.

That would seem to be good solution, but I'm having a problem with it. The M4L [vst~] object does not handle AU plugins in the same way that Live does. I cannot save multiple versions of the AU (in this case Kontakt), so I cannot run different Kontakt instruments in different clips. Ableton's native device for AU's allows multiple versions of Kontakt, each on a different clip with a different set of instruments.
