What I'm trying to figure out how to do is build a geometry which is arranged in a cycling z-order kind of like a deck of cards arranged in a ring, with the next card always half-overlapping the previous one.

I've got a jit.gl.mesh which uses a jit.expr to build this up. I put two of the vertices at Z=0 and two at Z=0.01 to achieve the overlap. So far so good. But when I render this with a texture that has alpha < 1., I want to see the shapes behind.

Typically this requires depth_enable 0, which is fine, but then when I set that, the Z values don't appear to have any effect. In other words, there is always one shape drawn fully on top (according to the draw order). This is especially noticeable when the source texture has alpha = 1.

If I set depth_enable 1, the polygons are correctly arranged with overlap, but where there is overlap I only see the frontmost polygon, with only the background behind, not the polygon underneath it. This is particularly noticeable when the source texture has low alpha.

Is there any way to get the polygons arranged correctly with overlap but also showing the polygons behind them according to the alpha of the texture?
