I am very very new to Max. Need some help please. I want the background to be a live webcam feed. In the foreground, there is a small graphic element that is controllable by the keyboard arrow buttons. I know how to capture live feed from the webcam. But how do I place an image over the live webcam feed? or can anyone point me in a direction that I can look into?

you will want that image to have an alpha channel, make a mask with it, then add both images. Did you look at built in jitter tutorials ? they should explain that pretty well.
