patch crashes max before it opens!
I have a patch with 3 buffers and some weird pitch delay effects in it, and I have a waveform attached to each buffer. I attached the selection start end outputs of the waveform to the start and end inputs of the groove object to make a visual 'granulator' of sorts, but it crashed straight away and now it wont open at all!
is there a way of opening a troublesome patch without it crashing so i can delete some stuff that may be causing the problem? I have an older version saved somewhere but itl take me ages to update it!
actually solved it, for anybody who has a similar problem:
if you have a patch that has crashed for some reason and you cannot open it because of something that is in the patch crashing it before it even opens, select open as text from the file menu, select your corrupted file, and when it opens up as a code text file, copy and paste it into a new patcher and voila! your patch re appears. delete whatever you may think is causing the problem and continue!
try opening while holding option-shift, check docs on [loadbang]. This disables potentially bad-news loadbangs and loadmesses.
heh, messes.
If the problem is elsewhere I'm not sure what to do. But without any user interaction and no loadbangs, nothing should happen, so your crash *shouldn't* happen either. That said, there are some pretty weird situations you can get into with Max... let us know how it goes :)
thats a good option for loadbang probs, dunno if it was one but i havent deleted any and it still works after i did the open as text and re paste thing. yea max does a lot of things it shouldnt do!
cheers!

true, the paste from text won't activate the loadbangs I don't think. be sure you can re-save the patch and open as usual, did the crash go away?
as far as i know it did, I havent opened the patch in a while but when i saved the new version it seemed to solve all the problems!
