Modifying the attributes of large panels appears to kill performance.

I am shifting the @angle of several large panels to create an animated backgroungd. I'm noticing that my UI has suddenly become less responsive. Please see the example. I'm not sure why this is happening. Any insight / work around would be magical. Thanks for taking a look!

You are asking Max to compute linear gradients for 3 panel objects, each one sized 1920x1080 pixels.

So lots of pixels needs to be recalculated in real time for each frame.

GUI objects in Max are not made for this kind of processing.

They employ a single-threaded CPU based software renderer under the hood.

They don't take advantage of the GPU. So their performance is limited.

You would be better off using Jitter for this kind of processing.

Thanks for replying. I suspected that might be the case. I don't have any experience with Jitter yet. Do you have any hints about where to start to create this kind of effect?
