Play or stream mp3s from a URL in max

Hi,

I'd like to play mp3s from a URL in max, which seems like it should be an easy thing to do, but its not. The oggrx~ object, which used to work for this, is now obsolete. I emailed Robin Gareus who compiled the ogg library a while back and he wrote, "Oggrx~ uses ffmpeg to stream and decode mp3. ffmpeg/libav has changed significantly over the last decade. It's probably a lot easier to start anew."

Jit.uldl might work- it downloads the specified mp3 into the same folder as the patch and I could work with it from there but would need to delete the file which brings up having to delete the file/s.

but I don't see how it could load an external file.

Does anyone have any ideas or a pointer in the right direction?
