Plugins dot 4 maintenance release

Good afternoon Folks,

We would like to announce the Pluggo, Mode and Hipno "dot-4" maintenance
release.

Important note!!!!!

If you want to use these plugs in MaxMSP - you must use
MaxMSP version 4.5.7!!!!

Users of MaxMSP previous to 4.5 should continue to use their current
plugin installs. Users of MaxMSP 4.5.x are strongly recommended to
upgrade to version 4.5.7 anyway.

In this release, the most notable change is that the plugs no longer
share the Cycling '74 folder with MaxMSP. They install their own support
folder, which is known as the C74 Plugin Support folder. We recommend
that if you use multiple products, you clean out your old installs and
install all of the packages you need before using them.

For PC users - uninstalling is straightforward, via the add/remove
programs dialog. For Mac users - we have included a small Applescript
based application which will completely delete all of your C74 plugins,
old or new, without wrecking your install of MaxMSP. This app has proved
to be very useful in testing.

This release will NOT require reauthorisation.

More detailed release notes may be found in the readmes.

Andrew,

Install instructions were not entirely clear. The C74 Plugin Support folder
contains a lot of stuff that is also in the Cycling '74 folder. These
folders appear

Pluggo Support
object-support
max-startup
jsui-library
jsextensions
java
init
externals

Are these updates? Should they replace the corresponding folders in the
Cycling '74 folder ?

Cheers,

NO. Just run the installer - there is nothing else you should need to do.

Pluggo uses a similar files as MaxMSP in order to run. In the past, it has used the files in the Cycling '74 folder. Now it uses its own set of files. Yes, they are similar to the ones Max uses. No they are not updates to the MaxMSP set. They are their own set - and the fact that we have seperated them out now means that Pluggo development and support will be significantly more easy for us to do.

Plugin developers please note that the Pluggo Support folder in C74 Plugin Support is also added to the MaxMSP Search path.

Cheers

I desperately hope it is searched as last. There are always issues with
different versions, thats why I demanded a different order of loading
externals for different tasks. A pluggo loaded into Max should search
the pluggo folders first, a Max patch the Max externals folder. A
standalone its own folder.
The mechanism should savely prevent loading standalone externals before
looking into the main external folder.
It should never create a problem to place an old standalone into the
search path.

Has this been adressed in the meantime? (If you are tired of reading
e-mails crying for help because of fragload errors, it should be
addressed. Mentioning the archives will stil not lower the amount of
these kind of questions in the first place.)
