I'm trying to get the serial data from a "Polhemus Patriot" into Max.

I'm using the USB connection and it doesn't appear in the "serial"-available devices.

I've tried both in OSX and in XP via Parallels.

I've also tried with an external "serial to USB" adapter, but mine doesn't seem to be supporting OSX.

The Native app that ships with the Polhemus DOES work in Parallels via USB.

There seems to be an option to "pipe" the stream from this app, but I don't know how to capture it in Max.

I know that "serial" doesn't support USB connections, are there any other solutions?

I've also tried with an external "serial to USB"  adapter, but mine doesn't seem to be supporting OSX.

[serial] worked fine for my Arduino over USB, as did a DMXUSBPro, so that should be no problem... maybe you're missing a driver? with the native app working, not sure what's up. though I'm certainly no expert on the inner workings of [serial] and what it can or can't do...

I think that if you're using USB, the baud rate settings are irrelevant, just FYI.

There were some problems with the "serial to usb"-drivers, and my teacher, Alexander Jensenius, helped me out:
