Possible mod to Mark Egloff's M4L step sequencer?

Hey there everyone. I am pretty down with Mark Egloff's step sequencer, but wanted to add a few ideas of my own.
I'm completely new to M4L so this post is to ask all you veterans whether you think it's possible or not, and perhaps you guys can give me a little nudge in the right direction..
I want to add custom swing to the sequencer.
Ideally, the device controls would represent steps 1-8 by default, and then I'd bank over to the next 9-16 notes by holding shift and hitting device on/off on the APC40 (I'd return to the original 1-8 by holding shift and hitting clip/track).
I'd be able to hold down shift (to distinguish from normal device control operation) on the APC40 and use the device controls to shift the note by a 32nd note forward at the max value, or a 32nd note backward at the min value.
Also I'm curious if I could switch how the APC40 changes notes on the sequencer. Currently you use the cue level to cycle through the 16 notes, but I wonder if there is a way to use the bank scrolling buttons..
Cheers! Hope to have some great discussion over this.
