Question for Power Mira Users
Has anyone used two iPads running Mira at the same time? I have two iPads connected via USB to a computer (MacBook Pro / M1) running Max. I was lucky enough to get them both working (once) in which the server and two clients were all synced together. However, all other attempts have failed: only one will connect, generally. I get the 70007 error message as well as a few others.
Should this be so difficult? In fact I have had quite a few issues with Mira since it was first released. I kept hoping that updates would improve it, but alas, I have continuous connection problems, and other weird things occur when Mira is incorporated into a larger, complex patch.
If there are any experienced Mira users out there who would like to share you knowledge, experiences, trials and tribulations I would appreciate it very much. That includes Sam Tarakajian if you are listening!
I have been in search of the holy grail of having multiple, synced iPads, and theoretically, Mira is the only iPad controller app that supports one server and multiple clients that stay in sync, as far as I know. Mira is such an extraordinary concept, I am still hoping to make it a major part of my studio setup.
Many, many thanks.
Haha - Power Mira :0
Best I can say - and it should be true for two iPads - is that I did performances in the past where I used the Mira app for myself (with my laptop in an awkwardly far away place from my iPad), and the sax player (who was in a completely different part of the room) accessed on his phone using Mira web. Everything worked great. This was using whatever weak wifi was available in the building at the time.
Haha - Sam is busy - !0
Hey,
I've successfully connected two iPads to my Mira setup running somewhat complex patches and have run into your connectivity issues. I can usually get around them by: quitting Mira, unplugging the USB and turning the wifi off, then on again, then restarting Mira. In the event this doesn't work, I restart the laptop and iPad. if THIS doesn't work, I restart my wifi router/mode pair (if the failure is over wi-fi connection.) Definitely more work than it should take, but I've yet to run into these issues without one of the above approaches resolving them.
Thanks Matt. This is precisely my point about Mira: if you are trying to use it, as I am, for live performance, then you need rock solid stability. Mira, for all of its great aspirations, has never been rock solid and I keep waiting for Cycling '74 to make it a tool that you can depend on without fiddling around. Anyone listening?
I've noticed I encounter the 70007 error more frequently when I travel with my MBP to different locations and connect to different wifi routers. Oddly, this behavior seems to affect connectivity issues even when you are using Mira exclusively with USB functionality.
The above approaches resolve my issues about 90% of the time, and, failing that, a hard restart on the iPads and my laptop and another round of the applicable steps mentioned above have always worked. I've never been 'locked' out during a session, thankfully, and at this point I trust these methods enough to jam live with my mira patches reliably.
Once the connection is made, in my experience, it is quite stable, but getting there can be a pain.
