QuNexus
I was thinking about buying a QuNexus and thought I might find interesting projects made with max besides the stuff you can find on Keith McMillens page. But there is not one topic about it in the max forum.
Polyphonic Aftertouch and the fact that you can address different CCs with every key, make it interesting for me. It's different than a ROLI seaboard, but it seems the be an expressive controller with unique features, like 2D control with an autonomous pressure- and tilt-sensor for every pad. My question is, can this actually be controlled in a way that doesn't feel random?
I use the QuNexus. I am more a wind player/piano player. I do feel the tilt unnatural and nearly never use it. I think it is because it is more guitar like. I do use the pressure often, and it does not feel random, and it does feel expressive to put wait on it to have more effect/volume/whatever. That said the main thing I do with it is to use it like a really portable keyboard. But because the way the keys are placed, I never have been able not to look at it when playing.
You have to be aware of the other model call K-Board. 99$
I tried Roli Seaboard once only. Roli felt a lot more natural to me. The distance between keys are standard, so it is more piano like. The 3 octove Roli is 2000$, so I am not sure how fair it is to compare them.
Thanks Musinou!
Interesting to hear that you have use for the pressure sensor. I was also thinking, if the tilt would make any sense for me. I'm also more of a piano player, but thought it would be nice to also have some pads to trigger drumlike events.
Yeah, I saw the K-Board but it doesn't have the feature of Polyphonic Aftertouch:

And for 50 bucks more I also get a computer-to-cv bridge. I think I just buy it and see if I like it. I was just wondering as it seems to be quite a unique instrument, that there would be more people here making interesting projects with it. Maybe it's just not as special, but still just a good portable keyboard/drumpad thing.
I tried the Roli, too. Somehow it felt a bit like touching the prop-intestines on a Cronenberg set must feel (: Seems cool, though. The more new approaches to creating instruments, the better.
The K-Board got out after I got me QuNexus, and I was aware of some differences, but the polyphonic aftertouch is important. That said, is it not easy to handle out of Max. I tried with Live, and it is a bit of a headache. Well it depends of what you do with it, but I often needed to have a track by note.
I personally use the bend button as a sustain pedal when I don't have one.
That said, I use the Softstep a lot more, and the Qunexus too. But for 150$, I would say try it. And, if you find a used one, those controllers are so solid, that I think one should not worry to much at getting a second hand one.
